Science & Origin of Stichtite
Stichtite is a magnesium chromium carbonate mineral that crystallizes in the form of masses, foliates, and spotted inclusions of other minerals. One special variety that displays this characteristic is a mineral by the name of Atlantisite (Stichtite formed within a Serpentine host rock). Its color is predominantly lilac purple, but can also be lavender and pink. It was first discovered in 1910 in Tasmania, Australia by A.S. Wesley. He chose to name it after the mine’s manager, Robert Carl Sticht; an American metallurgist and chief executive of the infamous Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company. Since it’s initial extraction over 110 years ago, Stitchite has only been found a handful of times. These deposits are in Australia, Tasmania, South Africa, Canada, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Russia, Brazil, and India.
